"Flowers have the charm of having a limited duration, of being born and dying"

Olga Pol is a florist and lives in Girona. He currently manages and works, together with his sister, at the Jumel flower shop. What marked him the most was going to look for his daughter in China: "it was quite an adventure until she arrived, the truth is that in my day-to-day life, what fills me the most is my family".

Hello Olga, how did you come to surround your day to day with flowers?

Olga Pol: I have done many things before taking over the florist. I trained in Chemistry and started working in a paint laboratory. I felt very good in the company, until one day they informed me that they would make me an indefinite contract. At that moment I realized that it was not what I wanted to do.

- And then, what happened?

Olga Pol: I remember my father telling me "Olga, we have a flower shop at home, you could come to work" . But, honestly, I didn't like the proposal! And the fact is that the times I had worked there I had to do the "less appreciated" job: handing out bouquets, cleaning the flowers... I didn't know what could be done. But my father insisted, "Olga, you will be a florist or not, but you will go to Barcelona to study floral courses!" .

- And did you go there?

Olga Pol: Yes, I went to Barcelona to study floral design and when I returned to Girona I couldn't leave the shop. I saw everything that could be done with flowers and I was fascinated by them. Really running a flower shop is a challenge and an adventure every day!
Do you associate flowers with women?

Olga Pol: With my flowers I seek to remove the gender stigma. I want women to find it totally natural to give flowers to the men around them!

- Do you think that if we surround ourselves with art and beautiful things we can improve our lives?

Olga Pol: I really believe in our work, in being able to improve people's day-to-day lives with flowers and plants. A bouquet made with "sweetness" and love, a plant placed in the right place arouses surprise... and is a good gift! Flowers and plants have something we cannot control, they are perishable, they have the charm of having a limited duration, of being born and dying.

Who inspires you in your personal and professional life?

Olga Pol: I really like Teresa Forcades, the last book she published is very interesting, I have it on my bedside table. Regarding the professional field, one of the people who inspired me the most was a teacher I had in one of the floral art courses. He taught me to know, understand, enjoy and live flowers! I remember that I never put a yellow flower in my bouquets because I didn't like them, he noticed, and since then he forced me to make all the bouquets in shades of yellow. Now when I see a yellow flower, my teacher comes to mind (laughs).

- If you were a flower, what would you be?

Olga Pol: I identify with a flower that is very resistant to the cold and that endures everything called Helleborus. It has a very hard blade and doesn't like the heat at all, like me! I'm a winter person, I don't like summer. I also feel very represented with the Fritallaria, a bulbous plant found in rocky areas near the Mediterranean Sea. Personally, I am fascinated by the sea in winter and nature.

And, which Roosik & Co jewel do you think best represents your essence?

Olga Pol: Roosik & Co's jewelry looks fantastic to me, it's hard to pick just one! But the Cuddle Lush necklace with its colored stones reminds me of a bouquet of flowers and I love it.

- Thank you very much for the interview Olga, do you want to add any recommendations (a book, magazine, song...) that you keep in mind in your day-to-day life and that can inspire us?
Olga Pol: Thank you very much! Well, when I have free time I collect florist catalogs and magazines and accessories, I really like it! As for books, I recommend "Born a Woman in China", it's based on a real event that made me think a lot when we decided to go and look for our daughter in China. It's a book that I think everyone should read!

Olga's words leave us wanting to discover a little more of the world and surround ourselves with flowers every day. You can tell that her bouquets are made with all the love in the world, because her words already gave off all this energy and emotion.

We recommend that you don't lose track of her from now on, you can follow her at @flors_jumel
