The Sapphire

, by Jordi Rosich, 2 min reading time

Sapphire is the gem of the month of September, associated with noble and faithful people.

The Sapphire is one of the most valuable and appreciated gems. It is a precious stone rare to find in nature, of great hardness and an intense and silky blue color, although you can find sapphires of practically all colors, grouped under the "fantasy sapphires".
Its name comes from the Greek " Sappheiros ", referring to lapis lazuli, and it is associated with noble and faithful people .
Do you think Sapphire could be your gemstone?

"I could spend hours looking at this blue. Sapphires are ideal gems for jewelry work, they are very durable over time and, thanks to their reflection of light, they have vivid and intense colors regardless of their size."

Sapphires, like other gems, have always been highly valued by the upper classes, but in this case we find special attention from the clergy, since they gave the stone a special symbolism: An image of heaven.
The main characteristic of sapphire would be its reflection of light: intense, changing and magical. From blue to purple depending on the type of light. There is also the phenomenon of asterism, inclusions in the gem that form patterns in the form of stars with six luminous points, one of the most famous examples being the "Star of India".

It is the stone of the month of September and is believed to evoke an image of heaven, a symbol of one's own soul and what was expected of it: fidelity , nobility and sincerity . Could it be your special gem?

Jewelry care

It is a gem of great hardness, a 9 on the Mohs scale, and is very suitable for everyday use, as it resists impacts well. Despite the good resistance also to chemical products, from Roosik & Co we recommend the use of warm water, soap and a soft brush (or a wet tissue) for cleaning.
