How to get the "Yes, I want" this Sant Jordi

, by Arnau Sorribes, 2 min reading time

Sant Jordi's Day is a great holiday for Catalonia. It is the festival of books and roses, culture and love. It is Valentine's Day and since the 15th century it has been customary to give a red rose to the person you love. Red, symbol of passion and love. Red like the blood of the dragon that Saint George killed to save the princess.

Around 1930, the custom of giving away a book was added to this party. And it is that April 23 was chosen as "International Book Day" because it coincides with the death of great writers: Miguel de Cervantes or William Shakespeare.

To celebrate this anniversary, thousands of couples go out into the streets and squares of cities and towns to take a walk through the stalls of flowers, books and bookshops. Every year, they look for the most beautiful rose or the newest book, in order to surprise their companion.

Red, yellow, white, multi-colored... Different and special roses come in all possible colors, but there is only one that shines above the rest. One that will last forever: the engagement ring. There are many who choose the date of Sant Jordi to propose marriage to their sweetheart, taking advantage of the atmosphere of joy and magic that surrounds the Day.

The diamond or brilliant becomes the corolla of rose petals and the gold or platinum ring becomes the sturdiest pedicel.
